Stora Enso invests EUR 285 million in new containerboard machine at Ostroleka in Poland

Stora Enso is strengthening its leading position in corrugated packaging in the growth markets of Central and Eastern Europe by renewing containerboard capacity at its Ostrołęka Mill in Poland. The EUR 285 million investment project is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2013. “Customer demand for modern light-weight corrugated packaging is increasing rapidly. This investment supports Stora Enso’s objective of offering demanding customers new packaging solutions,” says Mats Nordlander, Executive Vice President, Packaging Business Area in a pressrelease from the company.

Growth is back in Baltics, Poland and Russia

After some tough years, the economic crisis is over for the Baltic states, Poland and Russia,  at least in terms of growth, according to Nordea´s Baltic Rim Outlook. Estonia's forthcoming accession of the euro underlines that a new era has begun for the Baltics. Exports have initially been the main driver of the recovery, while growth in domestic economies varies considerably. Poland leads clearly and Russia is accelerating, while the Baltic countries are still struggling to boost domestic demand.

New marine regulations - disastrous effects for forest industry?

New regulation from IMO will mean a drastic increase in transport costs for business community in Northern Europe, and especially for base industries.  The decision is likely to have "disastrous effects" for Swedish forest industry according to the organization Swedish forest industry.

Metso supplies power boiler for green energy production in Poland

Metso will supply PGE Zespół Elektrowni Dolna Odra S.A. with a biomass-fired power boiler to their combined heat and power (CHP) plant located in Szczecin on the north-west coast of Poland. Start-up of the boiler plant is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2011. The value of the order is approximately EUR 60 million. The order is included in Energy and Environmental Technology’s Q2 orders received.
