Wood grinder reduce logistics costs by about 30% in forest

A new generation of wood grinder is tested by Sveaskog writes industry newspaper Åkeri entreprenad. The tracked crusher can chop stumps directly in the forest and load to full-sized chips cars. This method can reduce logistics costs by about 30 percent.

The large crushing machine is by brand Wood Hog 3800 Forest.The machine is a converted terminal machine that has a wheelhouse and a crane in order to feed the crusher, that effectively break up the stumps. Sveaskog are currently testing the machine, which can increase the profitability of the range. Process clearing debris, yard waste, storm debris and other mixed woody feedstocks into saleable products.

- Logistics cost of stumps is high. For the supply of cut stumps, we see the potential to reduce logistics costs by about 30 percent, by chop stumps on the spot in the woods and avoid run through a terminal to decomposition, "said Anders Eriksson, logisticians at Sveaskog in Bergslagen to the newspaper Åkeri entreprenad.
