Wind farm will supply pulp mill with energy

April 27, 2010 by timbercommunity

The Norwegian energy company Statkraft and the cooperative forest owner association Södra agreed in October 2009 on cooperation in renewable energy. The goal of the collaboration is to develop wind farms and realize the existing portfolio of over 300 wind turbines of around 1.6 TWh of annual energy production. Construction of the first wind park is expected to begin in early May 2010. Estimated start of production for the six new wind turbines is November 2010.

Södra  through its subsidiary Södra Vindkraft AB bought six wind turbines of the model ENERCON E-82nd.  Simultaneously with the delivery of the six turbines at Södra Cell Mönsterås as Southern and ENERCON has agreed an option for a further 50 wind turbines.
The first wind farm will be built in Em in Mönsterås.  According to a press release from the South in October 2009, wind turbines to be built adjacent to the pulp mill Södra Cell in Mönsterås. Statkraft is majority owner of the wind power projects run on leased land and Södra is running independent projects on its own land.

Södra and Statkraft also own a joint development company that will further expand the wind power project. Operations are conducted in two companies: one company for investment, in which Statkraft owns 90.1 per cent and Södra owns 9.9 percent and a company for project development, in which Statkraft owns 40 percent and Södra owns 60 percent.
