An article in Sciencenews describes that scientists in Stanford have made batteries and supercapacitors with little more than ordinary office paper and some carbon and silver nanomaterials. The paper-based devices show excellent performance largely due to paper’s porous nature: at the nano scale, paper is a tangled matrix of fibers. Read more

ToSIA—A tool for sustainability impact assessment of forest-wood-chains

A completely new software tool – ToSIA for decision makers in the forestry sector has been developed for assessing sustainability impacts of Forest-Wood-Chains (FWCs).

The tool shows what happens to the sustainable development when the production processes is changing. For example, one can determine the difference in carbon emissions of a wood product begins to be moved by rail instead of truck. Tosi is the result of the EU project EFORWOOD, which Skogforsk coordinates. Read more

Investment Grant for Biofuels Project

The Swedish Energy R&D Board (Energiutvecklingsnämnden) will grant 812 million SEK in aid to three demonstration plants. The aid is given on approval by the EU Directorate General for Competition according to the State aid rules. The three projects to be handed to the Swedish Ministry of Industry for city aid notification to the commission are:
