The number of notifications of deforestation to the Swedish Forest Agency in June was record high reports the newspaper Göteborgsposten. In the month of June took the Swedish Forest Agency reported on the excavation of 40 000 hectares of forest in Sweden. For southern Sweden (Götaland),it was appoximately 13 000 hectares.

- Many would like to sell their timber.  The fact that we receive so many notifications, which is a sign that business is in full swing across the country. The notifications of logging has increased so much this spring due to high timber prices.

In Southern forest owners is the list price for one cubic meter of sawn spruce (bark) is around 625 Swedish crowns, depending on size and quality. In spring 2009, the corresponding rates in southern Sweden was 443 Swedish crowns, according to statistics from the Swedish Forest Agency.

- It's historically high prices, "says Steven Smith, director of the company Södra Skogsägarna which is an association for forest owners in the southern region.

Increases in particular, sawn timber  has increased dramatically in recent times due to the need for wood. After the storm Gudrun sawmilling industry in southern Sweden expanded . Now that the storm-felled timber has canceled, but these sawmills still keep up production.

- Also, the forest owners have been waiting out the market for prices rises, "explains Anders Svensson to the magazine.
